This appears to be slightly different.The 4 is slanted.
The first H is wider.
The first A is pointed.


Did the handstamp wear out and have characters replaced, or is this an entirely different handstamp?


Of 100 examples of CHANGSHA on Republican Stamps, this is my only example of the top arched characters with character sub office.

I would love to get a complete set of twelve Heavenly Stems
Any city, but matching stamp type and value. 1 cent Junk, 5 cent Sun A37, etc.
Any date, any year, but all 12 on the exact same stamp.

And even better, if possible, matching cancel type. English top, middle, or bottom.

If everything was available at the same time and I only had limited funds, I'd rank my collecting interests as:

1st: Junks 1913 -  ?
2nd: Sun A37 1931-37
3rd: Sun A57  1937-40
4th: Martyrs

Half the time I buy collections and lots on eBay where only a few of the seller described "cancel interests" are actually interesting cancels.
And half the time I buy mixtures or sealed bundles and see what I can find.

Republican overprints on Coiling Dragons and commemorative stamps are usually too expensive to buy in mass quantities.

I think from 1968 to 2015 I've looked at over 70.000 China 1912-1949 stamps.

Not enough!

More, more, always more.

What is the full name to the Mr. Chan catalogue so that I can borrow a copy from the China Stamp Society library. Would the volumes by Paul Ke-Shing Chang be of help. I still have not purchased the CSS China Clipper on CD.

Except for William F. Bonner's work on Shanghai Cancels, I do not know of any list of a city's known  standard round postmarks.
