肖先生, 我太太在上海有一个公寓, 租给一位意大利年轻人。转发一段他昨天在微信朋友圈的贴子:”The night must pass, somehow".
There's a old Italian movie that I'm really attached to, "Napoli Milionaria ("Side Street Story' the English title).
The story talks about a Neapolitan family and its ups and downs during the Second World War.
The final phrase of the stage play, in which Eduardo (the householder) prepares to see out the night with his sick daughter Rita, while the rest of the family battles with their descent into utter moral decadence; looking at his daughter says "the night must pass, somehow" ("Adda passá a nuttata")
The phrase is so redolent with layers of meanings that it reminded me the layers of feelings that are characterizing these tough days in China.
All the efforts are into the game, there's nothing more than that we can push to move forward the fate. It's now the time to hold up tight, have faith, and go through the (long) night, knowing that the sun will rise back. soon.
